About This Project
Newport Railway Station is the second busiest in Wales after Cardiff Central, with up to 2.7 million passengers per year passing through. Earlier this year a new footbridge opened improving connectivity to the city centre, replacing an old subway with a safter and more accessible route. As part of this project the surrounding area was repaved and sustainable drainage features added to capture rainwater and divert it to planters.
New wayfinding and access control was required and Landmark were pleased to be awarded the package. This included Venice fingerposts and Milan bollards providing a contemporary and ageless solution. The Venice is our premium metal fingerpost and comes with an array of personalisation options making each solution unique, while still enabling a short lead time for those urgent projects. One of the original fingerposts (from a previous supplier) remained on site and we were able to refurbish the fingerarms with the new graphics and supply for install back onto the post – you’d never know!
The Milan bollard is a well-known sight at many locations, available in difference sizes, top styles and formats it provides free-flowing pedestrian access while ensuring safety and security for public areas. One key consideration was that some of the bollards needed to be removable while leaving a flat surface to avoid accidents so we used lockable ground sockets allowing the bollards to be locked firmly into place, yet removed quickly for vehicular access
It was a pleasure to work with Scott Parnell Ltd on this project and see how Newport City Council are improving this very busy station, and the whole area around it to make Newport an even better place to live and work.
